As a Pharmacy Intern at Giant Eagle, you will work within our community retail pharmacy, supporting licensed pharmacists in delivering safe, accurate, and compassionate patient care. You will assist with the prescription filling process from intake to dispensing, including data entry, label generation, counting and packaging medications under supervision, and ensuring prescriptions meet all legal and company standards. You will interact directly with patients, answer basic questions within your scope, and promptly refer clinical concerns to the pharmacist, always maintaining a warm, professional, customer-first approach. Working in the Healthcare & Medical Services department, you will learn to navigate pharmacy software systems, process third-party insurance claims, help resolve rejections, and support prescription refill coordination. You will help manage inventory by checking stock levels, rotating and organizing medications, monitoring outdates, and assisting in ordering and receiving products. You will contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy environment, following HIPAA regulations, state board of pharmacy rules, and Giant Eagle policies. Under pharmacist supervision, you may participate in medication therapy management support tasks, collect patient information, assist with medication reconciliation, and help prepare materials for clinical services such as immunizations and health screenings where allowed by state law and your level of training. You will use this hands-on experience to apply classroom learning, strengthen your pharmaceutical calculations, and develop your professional judgment. Giant Eagle’s culture emphasizes teamwork, innovation, and respect, and as a Pharmacy Intern you will collaborate closely with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and store team members to provide a seamless and convenient shopping and healthcare experience. You will be expected to communicate clearly, prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate a strong attention to detail to reduce medication errors and enhance patient safety. This role offers the opportunity to grow your skills as an emerging pharmacy professional, receive mentoring from experienced pharmacists, and build a strong foundation for your future career. You will be encouraged to contribute ideas that improve service, efficiency, and patient care, and to actively participate in a supportive, community-focused environment that reflects Giant Eagle’s commitment to customer satisfaction and community involvement. Pharmacy Interns at Giant Eagle typically work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet patient needs. In return, you gain real-world experience in community pharmacy practice, exposure to the operational and clinical aspects of pharmacy, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of the communities we serve.
