Job Description

Summary

This is a Research Coordinator I position for grant-funded studies investigating the immune and genetic basis of psychiatric disorders. The role is based at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center. The Research Coordinator will screen electronic health records to identify potential study participants, coordinate sample collection and data entry, liaise with collaborating sites, and maintain regulatory compliance. The position requires strong skills in organization, communication, and attention to detail. The Research Coordinator is expected to adhere to GCP/ICH guidelines and uphold standards of quality, safety, and patient-centered care.

Job Duties

  • Screens and recruits qualifying patients for clinical research studies through established platforms including electronic health record systems and collaborator referrals.
  • Collects and reviews patient information; processes health records and enters information into established databases(s) outlined in research protocol(s).
  • Develops and implements workflows to streamline biological sample collection, processing, and tracking in accordance with study protocols.
  • Handles biological specimens, including aliquoting, labeling, de-identification, storage, and coordination of sample transfers, in compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains records of data collection.
  • Maintains general recruitment records.
  • Provides the Principal Investigator with reports on study progress, data forms, data collection, intervention implementation and contacts, as requested.
  • Attends study meetings.
  • Assists with administrative duties of research study such as audit preparation, assisting in preparing the study reports, monetary disbursements, and organizing participant files.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. No experience required with preferred degree.
  • Spanish-speaking capabilities.
  • Strong clinical research experience, especially in coordinating multi-site studies and managing patient-facing workflows.
  • Background in biology, neuroscience, psychology, public health, or other life science or health-related fields.
  • Experience working with EPIC; familiarity with REDCap is a plus.
  • Wet lab experience, including handling and processing biological specimens for research.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, track pending items, and follow up consistently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with clinicians, labs, research staff, and study participants.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned studies, and maintain accurate research documentation.
