Job Description

Summary Genetic alterations are known cancer drivers, but not all patients harbor sufficient driver mutations to elicit the onset and progression of the disease. There also exist cancers such as pediatric tumors and several liquid cancers that carry very few genetic alterations, highlighting the contribution of non-genetic alterations to tumor formation. The Lee Laboratory seeks to elucidate how RNA aberrations impact the development and progression of cancer. We employ cutting‑edge sequencing to uncover errors hiding in RNA and use multidisciplinary approaches including cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology and protein biology to determine the pathogenic role of altered RNAs in malignant transformation. We hope to provide novel strategies for cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic intervention. The Research Assistant II provides responsible technical and coordination skills in support of research projects by completing assignments requiring a basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to a particular field of academics or research. Ideal candidate will have knowledge of cell culture, DNA, RNA, protein biology and data analysis. Key Functions Coordinates and conducts experiments independently in molecular and cellular biology, protein biology and other related basic science areas. Delivers results and data in a timely manner. Requires a willingness to learn and become proficient for new techniques that are needed for the research projects. Reads literature and confers with superiors regarding new procedures and modifies them according to the needs of the project. Follows lab protocols. Maintains accurate and detailed records of experimental data and protocols. Processes and evaluates data obtained in accordance with methods requested. Generates assay results using proper software and assists in scientific writing for publications and grant application. Presents at laboratory meetings, meetings with collaborators, and local seminars. Requests and handles patient specimens. Processes samples for RNAseq and functional assays. Responsible for the inventory of laboratory materials, cell lines and patient specimens and the Laboratory Safety Inspections. Coordinates with vendors and facilities for key laboratory materials and equipment services and repairment. Assists in training lab members and trainees. Other duties assigned. Education Required: Bachelor's degree with major coursework in one of the basic sciences. Experience Required: One year experience in scientific or experimental research work; No experience required with preferred degree. Preferred: Knowledge of Cell culture, DNA, RNA, Protein biology and data analysis.
