Full Job Description – R&D Engineer (Mechanical) | ABB | Bloomfield, CT

Location: Bloomfield, CT (45 Griffin Road South)

Duration: 6-month contract (potential to extend)

Schedule: Full-time; 40 hours/week

Pay Rate: $120K – $145K annually (depending on experience)

ABB is seeking an experienced R&D Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and manufacturing implementation of new and existing product programs. This role will work cross-functionally in a collaborative, team-first environment focused on innovation, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.

• Design, develop, analyze, and evaluate mechanical systems, components, and products
• Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using PTC Creo and manage data in Windchill PLM
• Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and ensure smooth implementation into production
• Lead or contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts within a manufacturing environment
• Develop and maintain technical documentation including BOMs, tolerance analyses, risk assessments, and design reviews
• Conduct root cause analysis and drive corrective actions for product and design issues
• Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams
• Interface with internal stakeholders and customers on technical challenges and solution development

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
• 5–8+ years of experience in mechanical design or R&D engineering
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple initiatives
• Experience designing components such as sheet metal enclosures, busbars, or similar mechanical systems
• Proficient in CAD modeling, drafting, and product lifecycle management tools

• Onsite role in a manufacturing/R&D setting
• Highly collaborative, team-oriented culture focused on knowledge sharing and collective problem-solving
• Fast-paced environment supporting new product development and production integration
• Exposure to cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and supply chain

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Bloomfield, CT.

The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $70.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Bloomfield,CT.
