Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or Technician (MLT) – Oncology Specialty

Location: Pittsburgh, PA 15219 (Oakland area)

Schedule: Daylight, Monday–Friday (No evenings, weekends, or holidays)

Status: Regular, Full-Time

We are seeking compassionate, detail-oriented Medical Lab Scientist s or Technician s to support our medical oncology practice in Pittsburgh.

In this patient-facing role, you will bridge the gap between complex diagnostics and patient comfort. By combining your phlebotomy skills with laboratory precision, you will directly influence the treatment journeys of oncology patients in a supportive, mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Excellence: Perform high-complexity qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures with precision.
• Patient Interaction: Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection, maintaining a professional and empathetic bedside manner.
• Critical Diagnostics: Recognize abnormal or critical test results and initiate corrective actions or follow-up protocols immediately.
• Technical Oversight: Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated lab equipment; troubleshoot instrumentation issues to ensure seamless laboratory flow.
• Collaboration: Act as a resource for the clinical team, assisting with the training of new staff and students as needed.

Qualifications

Candidates will be placed in the appropriate title (MLS or MLT) based on education and experience.

Medical Lab Scientist (MLS)

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or a related Biological/Chemical field.
• Successful completion of an accredited MLS program OR 2 years of experience in a role equivalent to an MLT.
• ASCP certification (or equivalent) preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience and knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) are highly valued.

Medical Lab Technician (MLT)

• Associates degree in Laboratory Science with MLT certification (or eligible new graduate) OR a Bachelor’s degree in a related science field with 6 months of clinical lab experience.
• Eligibility for high complexity testing as defined by CLIA ’88.
• 1 year of hospital laboratory experience is preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is a plus.
