Location: Corpus Christi, Tx Reports to: Operations Manager Summary A typical workday varies depending on the route, but all heavy truck drivers possess commercial driver’s licenses (CDL) and are responsible for efficiently and effectively transporting materials from one location to another. Responsibilities Perform all responsibilities in a safe, legal, professional, and ethical manner. Transport heavy loads within the assigned route or territory in compliance with rules and regulations for transporting materials. Load and unload cargo. Determine whether the vehicle complies with weight and height limits on bridges and tunnels and adjust plans if needed. Record the amount and type of cargo delivered. Take orders for new deliveries and drive long distances. Fill up on fuel, clean the truck, and wash windows. Report incidents to a dispatcher. Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion. Follow all applicable traffic laws. Inspect the trailer before and after the trip and record any defects found. Follow accident procedures if an accident occurs. Keep a log of activities. Report serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel. Maintain the truck and associated equipment in a clean and good working order. Qualifications Current state-issued Class A CDL Driver's License. At least 3 years of commercial driving experience. Skills Required Experience with lowboy trailers carrying oversized/overweight loads. Ability to interpret, read manuals, and write reports in English. Mechanical and analytical skills preferred. Ability to prioritize, organize work, and meet deadlines. Ability to provide proper hand signals to crane and truck operators. Ability to verbally communicate safety issues to customers and other workers at a job site. Ability to work at heights and use all PPE required for fall protection correctly. Proficiency in physical tasks such as bending, stooping, lifting, seeing, hearing, walking, lifting up to 75 lbs., twisting, crawling, climbing, squatting, kneeling, sitting, and standing. Adequate eyesight for operating a motor vehicle, inspecting equipment, and completing paperwork. Adequate hearing for telephone contact and interpersonal communication with customers and coworkers.
